If you hold the SSN (Social Security Number) of a person, you hold a key resource which can be used to obtain a variety of information about that person. Some people are of the opinion that searching for information on a person using the SSN is an invasion of privacy. In some cases though, such a search can be extremely useful and completely ethical. A couple of such scenarios are listed.
Suppose you want to hire a nanny for your children. Through a SSN search you can find out if they have clean criminal and driving records. This is extremely useful information. SSN’s can also be used by employers to determine whether potential employees and clean criminal, driving and credit records. SSN’s are often used by employers to check such records. If you are selling, leasing or renting a property or vehicle an SSN can be very helpful as it allows you to check the credit rating of the individual.
