It can cause and trigger medical conditions such as heart attack and stroke are just the most common that are linked to swollen gums and gum disease. While oral hygiene is an essential part of dental health for it is found out that dental plaque are similar to the plaque that block the arteries. Swollen gums are also a manifestation of a gum infection. It is not a disease itself rather a symptom of a medical condition. The thing that causes swollen gums are the bacteria that is in the mouth, although it can spread throughout the other systems of the body by entering the bloodstream as well as the digestive track.
